200 new jobs on Iron Range?

The Itasca Economic Development Corporation are announcing plans today for the former Ainsworth Lumber mill in Grand Rapids.

A news tip said the group would purchase 223 acres and replace the 200 jobs lost at the mill. Details will be available at a news conference this morning, and we will report the details as we hear them.

Ainsworth closed the mill in September 2006, putting about 190 employees out of work. Ainswoth made about 390 million square feet oriented strand board out of local timber per year. The closure was made permanent in August 2008.
