After only four months of selling on Amazon.com, Security Jewelers was named a top holiday seller by the online retailing powerhouse.
The honor for the small Duluth business is based on net sales and customer satisfaction scores.
Co-owner Jay Seiler said the Duluth business founded in 1924 has been selling online for about 14 years and has seen an dramatic increase to national and international markets in the last five years.
"Since 1998, our online sales have doubled every year,” he said in a news release. “But to us, it’s about a lot more than the bottom line. We strive to ensure that all of our customers, regardless of their geographic location, get not only the best products, but also the personalized attention and service that our in-store clients have come to expect.”
Also, Collaborative Design Group of Two Harbors was named a 2010 Grand Award Winner from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Minnesota.
The company earned the award for its work on the preservation of Split Rock Lighthouse.
The lighthouse has had water infiltration problems for nearly its entire 99-year life, said the council’s newsletter.
"Many attempts have been made to repair the deterioration, but few had actually addressed the source of the problems," said the award’s description. "Innovative restoration techniques were employed, including dry-ice blasting to remove paint and clean the cast-iron elements of the lantern. These and other repairs made using modern forensic investigation techniques, practical engineering analysis and innovative restoration techniques have now made the enclosure for this very important Minnesota icon weather-tight, and created highly sustainable preservation of a national landmark."
